Three birds...One stone

Yesterday I finished putting together this quilt top.

The top is 84" x 84". I am very pleased to have it done because it allowed me to meet three goals in one project:

Obviously, I got another UFO moved into the "ready to quilt" pile. The twelve blocks around the perimeter of the quilt are the result of a block swap. About a year ago one of my girlfriends went to Hawaii and brought back the koi fabric that you see in each of the blocks. She gave 1 yard of fabric to each of 11 of her friends and we each made 12 blocks. In September we got together and traded blocks. This one is my contribution--

2. When I realized that John was going on vacation and would be bringing me more fabric I decided that I needed to try to make a dent in the stack I have from his last trip. One of the pieces had just the right colors to go with these fish blocks, so I used it for the fan blades in the center section of this quilt. (Too bad the brilliant colors really don't show online. You should see it in person!)

3. One of the reasons I chose fan blocks for this section is so that I could get in some practice on curved seams before tackling that double wedding ring. These blocks finish at 6" which means those yellow and orange pieces had some very tight curves and were quite a challenge to get right. By the time I got to the outside curves I could do them in my sleep. Even those are tighter than the curves I will be stitching on the DWR so I now have complete confidence that the quilt top will go together without any problems.

I plan to do some fancy quilting in those large black spaces. Now if I can just find the time to quilt it before fair season gets here!

Nothing to do

My brain is off on some sort of vacation and I need to try to lure it back because we have things to do, contrary to the title of this post. I guess I will try luring it back with fun stuff. So off I went to the Writer's Digest site for some thoughts on what to write about. When I get inspired, I will take their topics and make funny or disgusting stories for your amusement. Enjoy. Just not right now.

So annoyed with Google...
I have adsense ads on two sites. I'm removing them from one maybe both.
My main site is my art. Unlike Vox / LJ I'm not political. I'm not talking about politics, news, my life, anything even remotely political at all.

Now in theory AdSense has been good. I've not made a lot of money but I have a few $$ built up in my account. Granted it will take years to get to the $100 for a payout but whatever. The site I am removing them from is the one that gets more hits, and made most of the money that I have sitting in there... But screw them.

One of the sites I have is a coffee blog with my mom. The ads there are Coffee related. Great.

My site? The main page = yeah they show art related ads. Some of the individual pages they show art ads. But when I went to look at my latest post to check formatting etc after posting it -- all anti-Obama ads. WTF? It's a post about Robot art I made. So I start clicking on other individual posts. Art ads. Art ads. Art ads. All good. Maybe something about robots was a keywords on those ads? Wait... NO...

On a post that reads:
"Waking up at 8:30 yesterday meant random digital doodling. I wasn’t sure if I loved or hated her until Brian said because of the colours I used she looks very 80s so I should add a checkered background. Now I think I like her even if she wasn’t a serious doodle originally. Now, sleep again. I fell asleep at 10, but had to wake up for my shot and been up since *yawn*"

How is that related to that page? That was the full text of that post page that the ad appeared on. Checkered background maybe? COLOURS? Whatever, I can't check other posts now, they've been replaced with AdBrite.

5 Ads like that on that post? No. I think I'll boycott them, I'd rather lose the money sitting in my account now than wait to make $100 that way. At least with AdBrite I can approve EVERY ad that will potentially appear on my site. Or maybe just skip ads and move to a Zazzle widget. If that was on these sites I post politics on and if I didn't support Obama I'd not be so pissed but I don't want that shit on my Art Site.

Off to check the coffee blog, if that shit is there too I'm done with Ad Sense for good even if it mean losing a few dollars I made fair and square.

pimping out your art

So one person thinks my girls belong on cards... thought CafePress and created a store but doubt I'll ever use it. Let's face it all of the stores online make the products so how much you make on default prices will be minimal because well duh you're not buying the cards, shirts, whatever, printing, etc. But I don't really care if they do all of the work, on my end it should at least be easy to set up and I found CafePress to be kind of a pain. So I went with Zazzle. I liked their set up for adding new items better, I liked their default way for pricing better even though I'm too lazy to look at which makes me more money if I actually sell anything.

Not much at mine yet, but I made it while tired last night, in fact I should look at it now that I'm awake :P But I added a link to it on My main site so as I make art I like I guess I'll at least add cards (blanks except for cover image, seems smarter to let people personalize them I'd think). Doesn't cost me anything so can't hurt. If I sell nothing, I'm out nothing. And I think my "store title" is soo smart "Buy my stuff so I'll think I'm an artist..." heh.

Hmm I should clean up the Keegan robots to sell on a card!

Primitive Pink

Gray and very emerald green day today. Rain has been lashing down and the wind is blustery but the grass and leaves are brilliant and please me greatly. After the muted winter, this saturated colour is so life affirming!

I just had the most delicious egg salad sandwich for lunch. Shared with my mum. I add chopped green olives to the egg mixture with celery and parsley. May sound odd but they are really good. My mum comes over about once a week to share lunch with me. Usually sandwiches and tea and a bit of chocolate for dessert.

I am thrilled to bits with my latest find....SurfTheChannel
Lately I have been craving the start of season 2 of The Tudors which has not aired in Canada yet. A luscious, dark, juicy, historical series.
It suddenly occurred to me I might find it online and I did! Along with dozens of TV shows, documentaries and movies that I have wanted to see! I don't know how they manage it. Anyway, I am in Tudor heaven.
