Since Christmas I have turned out 5 art purses, they have been packed up for their new homes, but I do have pics on my camera and as soon as I figure out how to get them off there I will post them.
I
am also painting a small cigar box style purse my daughter bought for
me to paint along with a bunch of other stuff, she seems to feel I need
to keep busy. Not sure if I am going to line the inside with fabric or
just paint it, but the purse in general is coming along nicely. It will
be going up for sale on my website as one of the first listings
featured when the site goes back up on the new host in a week or so.
Also going up it the memo board shown next to it below, an exact
duplicate of the one I made for my own kitchen that everyone tries to
talk me out of. The site is going to be a mix of things both painted
and textile, plus some of the wearable art clothes I design and make.
Neither of these cell phone pics is great, but they give you the
general idea.
The memo board is done, the sunface purse is in progress, still lots of detail work and outlining to do yet on it.
In
other news, I stumbled upon www.stumbleupon.com and I love this web
search/ bookmarking site. It's free and I have found a ton of stuff I
might have missed otherwise, the web is getting too big to search it
well all by yourself anymore. Some of my best recent finds are these:
A pictorial blog of links to recipes that made me gain 50 pounds just looking at itA great "How to draw" site with tons of tutorials, lots of illustrations & it's free.
Susan Lomuto's blog Polymer Clay Notes... which happens to be about a whole lot more than Polymer clay.... in fact it is one of the best art blogs I have found in quite awhile.
Canadian Textile sculpture artist Miles Lowry who casts the human form in cotton and paints it.... his work is absolutely amazing!
Seattle bleach artist Deborah Gwinn
Paper Mosaic Fusion artist S.A. Schimmel
The absolutely amazing art of Tina Blondell
That's it for now, back to painting the purse for me....
Between sewing purses and painting boxes I have been discovering the joys of www.stumbleupon.com:
I am not lost... just wandering while I down some coffee is all ;)
And since I was up all night last night and as a result I slept most of the day ( well till 7p) I am probably gonna be up all night playing with fabric, and I do believe I hear a tamale calling my name right now.... I might as well eat, it is clear to me I will never live long enough to create everything that I have in my head already. So if I am predestined to go out frustrated, I flat out refuse to go out hungry.
Cross posted from Live Journal because I am too lazy to make a separate post.
Show us a photo of a place you love.

Sunset Bay on the southern Oregon Coast...it is lovely there.
Show us what makes you want to get out of bed in the morning.

This clock will force anyone out of bed..... even on just the shake setting, that part of this clock is really nice if you need to get up early and do not want to wake the person next to you... (or the neighbors) by using the super loud audio alarm. Staying in bed is not an option, even for a deep sleeper. I have been running on 3-4 hours sleep a day for a couple years, and when I crash, I crash hard. A friend got me this alarm clock for Xmas.... it does the trick., even when I do not want to get up, it leaves you no option but to get up.
You have to watch it all the way through to get the real point of it....and the hidden humor. Me... I love John Prine music so that part was easy, not laughing out loud at 415am was the only hard part.... yes sir, there are hidden gems on youtube and sometimes you stumble upon one of them.... this gem was filmed in 2004, we already had troops in Iraq....keep that in mind after the second chorus....
But, I am making an exception with this post.... does Hillary Clinton REALLY think that running a dirt slinging, smear campaign will net her positive results? The more this hag opens her mouth the less I like her. I admit it, I have not liked her from day one, I do not want a snippy, pretentious, selfishly calculating bitch representing this country... or me. Yes she has ambition and drive, more than her husband ever dreamed of perhaps, maybe that's what bothers me about her. She comes across as a Good Old Boy politician, and I have no love for that animal in general. We NEED change and the more she opens her mouth the more I know in my heart she is not capable of delivering it, same old, same old... I am tired of it.
What I find oddly amusing is her relationship in the press with Obama...when he is ahead of her she paints him like the devils right hand man, and she does it with the venom of a southern baptist preacher. But when he is behind her in the polls she barely acknowledges his existence... clearly he is a threat to her. Apparently she feels he is her main threat because she attacks him twice as much as she does Edwards. Maybe she is hoping to at least get in as VP should Edwards win the nomination... personally, I don't want her anywhere near the White House. Me? I would be scared as hell to be the only thing between Hillary and her getting presidential power, at the very least it would make me sleep with one eye open at all times, and I would not allow her to make any travel arrangements for me.
I am an Independent, and proud of it. I do not see a huge difference in the main political parties anymore, the only difference between them is who they owe... and who they suck up or make promises to. I use to be a democrat, until Bill Clinton. I did not find him charming or to be a good leader. I believe in my heart he is guilty of criminal level things we will never know about, he covered his tracks well, or Hillary covered them well for him in order to keep her own shot at the presidency, I'm just not sure which. Call this a gut feeling, nothing more. But the past has shown me I need to follow my gut and so I do so where the Clintons are concerned.
Fast forward to the present, and the heath care issue. Edwards and Clinton apparently want to require Americans to purchase the affordable health insurance they plan to offer via the government or face a penalty from the government. (When the mob did this the cops called it protection money or extortion). I hope minimum wage workers are paying attention to this.
Politicians seem to have a different idea of affordable than I do. If a minimum wage worker takes home $1000 a month, and their rent is $600 and the affordable health care coverage costs $300, how do they eat and keep the lights on, let alone pay penalties while being poor? I do not think even Obama has a fast answer, no one does.... and in my experience any time a government agency is in charge there is waste, fraud and over spending so the fix is not going to be an easy one. Maybe they need to pay for willing med students to become doctors in exchange for 5 years of public service in county clinics with $25 office visits for anyone without insurance .... that would open up access to health care to the working poor at the lowest cost possible.... it would also encourage more young people to become doctors while giving them 5 years of valuable on the job experience. A free education is a very good motivator, hell it would take them much longer to pay off student loans than 5 years. Win/win... pay to educate dental students under the same plan and a major fix for access to dental care opens up too. Then sell government issued prescription coverage and major medical access with provisions for denial of benefits to those who abuse the system (ER hopping to get narcotics, etc) and those non-compliant with care (for instance if your doctor says to limit salt, and labs prove you are not doing that, then you can no longer be treated for renal failure under the plan). Make people responsible for their own free will decisions, give them ramifications for non-compliance and you MIGHT be able to create truly affordable access with premiums everyone could afford. But such a plan might make too much sense, and it would create a potential way out of the failing system of over priced care delivery.... this is why I am not a politician...I am a rational thinker. Some days at least....
Do I support anyone? Not yet, but I am leaning towards Obama, not sure why but I trust him to do the best job he possibly can without compromising his principles, and in reality that is more than most politicians bring to the table whether they have a ton of experience or not. I was born in Illinois, my sister still lives there... my sister Pat has never been politically active in her 60+ years but this year she is knocking on doors and campaigning for Obama, that speaks volumes to me on what he has done while in Illinois.... because she does pay attention to things, so I am watching him closely. We'll see... I think he and Edwards would make an unbeatable team if they joined forces once the nominee is decided for the democrats... and if Hillary manages to win it, I may need to leave the country, out of utter fear and loathing.
As for the Republicans ...I have been watching their side show off and on, nothing there is really worth talking about....just a bunch of old politicians, and Huckabee... who is mildly amusing in his own way..... for an ex-preacher.
Ron Paul... is also interesting, but I do not know enough about him to voice an overall opinion... I will say based on what I have seen of him, he talks and acts more like an Independent or Libertarian, I cannot picture him as a Republican.
